Sheep Cleats Harbour

BY ROAD

Eastkirk lies within Corrie, a village 6 miles north of Brodick, the island's main town.

Most visitors arrive on the island at Brodick, having traveled by ferry from either Ardrossan or Troon. It is also possible to arrive from the north, using the Claonaig - Lochranz ferry service.

Brodick is an excellent place to stock up before heading to Corrie (there are no shops in Corrie). The Coop has the full range of groceries, wines and items you’ll need for your stay. There’s also an outdoor centre (Arran Active) should you decide you must run up Goat Fell.

To reach Corrie, turn right as you leave the ferry terminal. Leaving Brodick behind you, follow the Shore Road as it winds along the east of the island tracking the boundary of the 800 year old Brodick Castle with its formal gardens and famous Rhododendron collection.

Upon reaching Corrie you’ll be greeted by the sheep-shaped bollards of Sheep Cleats Harbour, brought to Arran after starring in the 1988 Glasgow Garden Festival.

Eastkirk is the imposing church immediately to your left around the next corner.

BY TRAIN

Train services are offered by ScotRail, with regular services between Glasgow Central Station and both Troon and Ardrossan Harbour.

Ardrossan Harbour Service

Ardrossan train times are scheduled to coincide with the Calmac ferry arrival/departure times, so you can step off the train and straight onto the ferry.

Journey times are around 50 minutes, with 15-20 trains per day.

Troon Service

The service to Troon town centre uses a bus shuttle service to connect to the Troon ferry.

Journey times are around 40 minutes, with 40 trains per day.

BY FERRY

Whatever your mode of transport you're going to need a ferry to reach the island.

Most visitors come to the island through Brodick, the main town, although it is also possible to arrive from the north, using the Claonaig - Lochranz ferry service.

Cars, vans, cyclists and foot passengers are allowed on all services. Please book well in advance to secure your crossing, especially in summer.

Calmac operates the ferry services, traveling several times a day. Crossing times are 50 - 75 minutes.
