Explore

If you’ve never been to Arran before, you’re in for a treat. Often called “Scotland in Miniature,” the island has it all — mountains, beaches, castles, forests, distilleries, and even a few friendly highland cows who are more than happy to pose for photos.

From Eastkirk’s front door in Corrie, you’re already in one of the island’s prettiest spots — nestled between the sea and Goatfell’s dramatic slopes. Whether you fancy a full day’s hike or a gentle potter along the shore, you’ll find beauty at every turn (and probably a coffee shop soon after).

Wild Adventures

If your boots are itching for action, climb Goatfell, the island’s highest peak. It’s a proper mountain — 874 metres — with breathtaking views over the Clyde and across to the mainland. Pack some sandwiches and a flask, and give yourself a few hours; the reward is worth every step.

For something a little less strenuous, explore Brodick Castle & Gardens, with its woodland walks, waterfalls, and roaming red squirrels. Or take a drive round the island — it’s just 56 miles, but you’ll want to stop every five minutes to admire the view, meet a sheep, or take “just one more photo.”

Seaside Wandering

Eastkirk sits right on Shore Road, so a morning stroll along the waterfront is practically compulsory. Keep an eye out for seals basking on the rocks — they’re usually showing off somewhere between Corrie and Sannox.

In summer, the sea is surprisingly swimmable (well, brisk), and the beaches at Kildonan and Blackwaterfoot are perfect for picnics and paddling. Don’t forget your camera — the sunsets on Arran have a way of making even the most casual photo look like a masterpiece.

Eat, Drink, Discover

Exploring is hungry work, and luckily, Arran knows how to feed you. Stop by The Corrie Hotel just down the road for hearty meals and a friendly pint. For a sweet fix, try Arran Ice Cream in Brodick — it’s a local legend for good reason.

Whisky lovers can tour Arran Distillery in Lochranza or head south to the new Lagg Distillery for a taste of peated perfection. If beer’s more your thing, Arran Brewery is right by Brodick Castle and always worth a stop.

Island Moments

Exploring Arran isn’t about ticking boxes — it’s about slowing down and soaking up the atmosphere. Watch the ferries come and go, breathe in the pine-scented air, and feel the sea breeze on your face. Whether you’re climbing mountains or just watching clouds drift past the sun lounge windows, this island will work its quiet magic on you.

Eastkirk makes the perfect base for every adventure — whether that’s hiking, tasting, cycling, or simply watching the tide roll in with a glass of wine in hand.

Because here on Arran, exploring doesn’t just mean seeing more — it means feeling more.
